about

produced by TJ Hurd at Electric Buffalo Records

As jazz moves further into its second century, it is fascinating to see what will happen next to the genre of music that has been called America's first true art form. Many artists, young and old, strive to push the music forward and diversify its iterations, but there are also a few artists who are looking back. The Original Cornell Syncopators of Ithaca, New York are among this fraternity, but are by no means exclusive. Indeed, their goal is to explore all of jazz's earliest forms, and "Wild Jazz", their first album, attempts to present some highlights of this exploration. From the up tempo romp of the band's theme song "Cayuga Stomp", to the hauntingly blue strains of the New Orleans slow drag "Give Me Some More", to the modernist machinations of Fud Livingston's premature masterpiece "Imagination", to the archaic sounds of the first jazz records in "Indiana", and everything in between, the Original Cornell Syncopators present in "Wild Jazz" a palette of the different sounds of the Jazz Age. The music is performed with the greatest respect for its creators and understanding of the times, and most of all it swings and sways, and 'wildly' at that!
